my life as an intern
From Kansas to New York.

I left my life behind to start making my way as a professional photographer. Where to start? At the Village Voice naturally.

Ready to Rage.

Homesick

It is official: I am so homesick.

I miss my family so much. I miss my puppies & my kittens.

New York City could be the place for me, if everyone I love could just relocate here as well. Im honestly quite tired of the ridiculous price tags on just about everything, as well as the very rude people.

Anyhow, for a recap:

Halfway done. Published twice in print, & once online. Not too shabby. This month I will be filming the music festival the the Voice puts on down at the South Street Seaport (awesome.) Alongside that, I will be photographing, or obtaining photographs of 50 different restaurants around the city for the online dining guide (sarcastic tone: so thrilling). OH…and Im pretty sure I got an A on my midterm paper!

Overall, New York has made me appreciate the following:

  1. Everyone back home
  2. The luxury that is my sweet little Honda Civic
  3. A queen sized mattress, that does not include a ladder to get into it
  4. My grandmother paying for my fancy organic groceries from time to time (that shit is more expensive than you’d think)!
  5. Blackdog Coffeehouse and its fantastic Chai (New York only has Starbucks!)
  6. Always having someone to go to the movies with (even if it is my smelly teenage brother)
  7. Home-cooked meals (the extent of my meals is pasta, frozen yogurt, salad, uncrustables, cereal, pizza & black bean tacos) Believe me, my dad is the king of pasta making, its absurd.
  8. Having beautiful friends to photograph whenever the mood seems fit
  9. My mother who does a way better job of braiding my Jedi Braid than I do
  10. Can openers…we can rent them….Between the hours of 7 & 10pm Mon-Fri.(DUMB!!!)
  11. A  real cute cat to sleep with at night
  12. Coworkers & friends that accept me for how incredibly odd i am, Jedi Braid, tattoos, and usually unwashed hair included.
  13. A couch to nap on while watching Law&Order (I am too paranoid to watch Law&Order here)
  14. Puppies who get so excited when I walk in the door (as opposed to roommates who barely say hello)
  15. Rooster-Booster Energy Drinks & Crab Rangoon’s.
  16. Chocolate Milk at every grocery store without fail (one day I went to 5 stores in search of it, yes RIDICULOUS)

I could go on forever, BUT I do have restaurants to be researching. All of that probably makes New York sound terrible, it’s really not, this week has just been crap-tastic. On the 19th my very good friend Micki is making will be visiting me for 5 days, I am so looking forward to it.

So sorry for the lack of photos, I have been shooting mainly film with my new Holga camera. As soon as I get this roll developed they will be up!

Happy Late 4th of July.
