my life as an intern
From Kansas to New York.

I left my life behind to start making my way as a professional photographer. Where to start? At the Village Voice naturally.

Life these days…

It’s been a minute, so how about an update?

The fall semester was busy and a whole lot different than I had expected it to be. As the semester came to a close I spent most of my free time applying for internships for the summer of 2012. So far I have applied at:

  • The LA Times
  • MILK Studios
  • Smashbox Studios

I am going to try and get a few more applications out in the next week or two before I head back to class for the spring.

I have been keeping busy with shoots every week or so, I am feeling really good about my direction as an artist/photographer.

I keep update my personal tumblr at least once a day with new photographs. If you don’t already, please follow my personal tumblr:

I’ll begin updating this as soon as I find out about an internship.

Thanks again for all the support!

To my followers…

As my summer internship has come to a close, and I did not get the fall internship position I had hoped for I will no longer be updating this page for the time being. However if you would still like to keep up with my work and adventures please follow my personal tumblr.

Thanks for all the support & reblogs!

I hope can continue to intrigue & inspire you!

New York has been pretty dull. The past few weeks have consisted of mainly photo research, and a few trips to shoot restaurants in Queens for the Voice, nothing too thrilling by any means. Last week however, I also had the not so fun task of writing a 6 page paper for my “internship class.”  Basically in order to receive college credit for my internship I had to write a few papers this summer. Needless to say, I may have been bored out of my mind, and ridiculously homesick but I did get an ‘A’ in my “class.” Now that New York has officially made me broke, I am more than ready to head back to Kansas City to take on new adventures. Below I posted a few polaroids from my day touring Bryant Park and Times Square, in my opinion, two very overrated places.

But if you’ve kept up with me, you know I have found all of New York to be completely overrated. Tomorrow is my last day at the Village Voice, after work I plan on taking a few more snapshots of the city before I head home to get packing & cleaning. One more post, and I’ll be back in the Land of Oz.

Best,

Brittney

A few more

I posted a few forgotton photos from 4Knots that I shot of the headlining band, The Black Angels. The set was absolutely incredible, but by the time they started playing I was exhausted so I didn’t get too many shots. One of my favorites from the day is of the soups old crowd surfer, haha he was epic! Lots of work to do, less than two weeks left in New York! Expect another post soon!

Cheers

A trip to Queens

This week has been soups busy! My friend Micki has joined me in New York for a few days & we have been adventuring all over! We spent a day back at the MET, this time I saw so much more! It was incredible! We also spent two evenings in Times Square, checking out all the flashing signs and touristy things going on there. I have now seen Harry Potter twice!!! I throughly enjoyed each showing haha. The tourist activities do not end there! Today we went to the Natural History Museum, it was HUGE, in three hours we may have seen half of it? Nonetheless, it was rad. Amongst all the tourist activity, I had an assignment for the village voice to journey an hour away by train to Queens to photograph a few different restaurants and try the food! Chicken curry & dumplings, not my favorite, but hey at least my photos will be in the newspaper next week! Anyhow that is the long and short of it! A few of my slideshows are now up on the Village Voice website, i’ll post some links! Also, I am still selling prints be sure to email me if you are interested! Hope all is well!

all my best,
